Israel's Channel 2 TV station released this video footage showing Palestinian detainees being treated as sub-human by Israeli troops in the regime's desert prison of Naqab (Negev)in 2007.

It shows the incitement of sleeping, unarmed Palestinian prisoners in the middle of the night by Israeli Masada Combats.

The prison commandor ordered this incitement to "increase the morale and motivation" of the regular prison guards.

During this assault by masked Israeli combatants, one Palestinian died and several others sustained injuries.

Since 1967, approximately 700,000 Palestinians have been arrested and detained under Israeli military orders. This number accounts for close to 20 percent of the population in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Israel’s Channel 2 TV station has released video footage showing Palestinian detainees being tortured by Israeli troops in the regime’s desert prison of Naqab (Negev) back in 2008.

The footage showed one Palestinian died and several others sustained injuries due to the torture by the Israeli soldiers, Qodsna news agency reported.

The Israeli forces have “used tear gas and stun grenades” against Palestinian detainees, the video shows.

The footage also demonstrates that medics were prevented from treating the wounded Palestinians.

In late December 2010, a human rights group called Public Committee Against Torture in Israel revealed that Palestinian detainees are systematically denied the right to meet a lawyer during interrogations.

Being shackled to chairs for long periods, sleep deprivation, intimidation, torture and abysmal detention conditions are some of the cases the human rights group documented in its report.

Israel claims that its army is “one of the most moral armies” in the world as it treats prisoners and detainees with honor.

But in recent years videos have come out, showing how Israeli soldiers abuse and humiliate blindfolded and handcuffed Palestinian prisoners.

Detainees: Prison guards use dogs, sticks during night raids

Ramallah – Ma'an – Palestinians detained in Israel's Megido Prison reported a series of cell raids last week, with guards ransacking living areas in search of mobile phones, the PA Ministry of Detainees Affairs said Tuesday.

A statement from the ministry said guards initiated the searches after midnight, entered cells, hit prisoners with sticks and launched tear-gas canisters inside cells, causing injuries to several detainees.

"The prison guards allege that they are looking for cell phones, but they are carrying out these raids to humiliate the detainees," the statement said.

One detainee from Tulkarem, identified as Musa Khouli, was quoted in the statement, saying the number of night raids has increased recently inside the Megido prison, and added that on some occasions the troops bring dogs in to sniff out the cells.

Megido was not the only prison where cell raids were conducted at midnight, the statement added, quoting a detainee identified as Hani Yousef Abul Sba, incarcerated at Israel's Ofer Prison, who said guards there had also recently begun night raids.

Tens of Palestinian prisoners hurt in jailors' attack

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Tens of Palestinian prisoners in the Megiddo jail were hurt on Monday night when Israeli members of the Nahshon unit, used to quell prisoners, broke into their cells. Megiddo prison sources said that dozens of the Nahshon unit launched a large-scale inspection inside the minors' wards at the pretext of searching for mobile phones. They added that the soldiers claimed that cell phones were found in those wards, which made them assault prisoners leading to violent confrontations during which the soldiers used teargas and savagely beat up the minors. Prisoners in other wards declared a state of alert after what happened, prompting the prison administration to force them out of prison yards and to deploy more troops. The Palestinian prisoner's society asked the Red Cross to send a special committee to Megiddo instantly to get first hand information on what happened to the prisoners especially the minors. The society expressed concern over the fate of prisoners especially minors, some of whom suffered breathing difficulties and injuries as a result of the beatings.

PFLP Prisoners' Commission denounces occupation attacks on Palestinian prisoners

The Prisoners' Commission of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine strongly condemned Zionist attacks on Palestinian prisoners in a statement released on August 4, 2009.

In particular, the Prisoners' Commission denounced the attacks on prisoners in the Naqab desert prison, where occupation forces stormed the prison with tear gas and batons and beat and abused prisoners. 3 prisoners were wounded and their property stolen from them.

The Commission condemned the policy of nighttime raids on the prisoners, an abuse that has become common in recent months. It also called for an end to the repeated transfers of prisoners between prisons, in an attempt to isolate prisoners from one another and undermine prisoner communication and organizing, as well as the continued policies of isolation, solitary confinement and collective punishment and expressed its outrage at the continual escalation and violation of our heroic prisoners' rights by the Israeli prison administration.

The Commission noted that the rights of the prisoners were won through the long and valiant strggle of the priosners themselves and through the many years of heroism of the Palestinian prisoner movement, and declared that the Palestinian people outside the prisons will not leave our prisoners to confront the occupier alone, but instead will stand as one to defend our prisoners' rights and secure their freedom.

The Commission called upon all Palestinian, Arab and international human rights organizations to increase their activity and expose the crimes of the Zionist occupation, and intensify their support for the Palestinian prisoners and their rights and their full freedom.

Prisoners' society warns of IOA systematic violence against prisoners

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Wa'ed society for prisoners has called for urgent intervention to halt the Israeli occupation authority's (IOA) systematic violent acts against Palestinian prisoners. The society in a statement on Wednesday said that what happened in the Negev desert prison could happen any time in any other prison. Conditions of 11,000 Palestinian prisoners in IOA jails have been deteriorating rapidly on all levels, it added. The society warned that the Negev prison administration might adopt penal measures and/or collective punishment against the Palestinian detainees as a result of the fire that gutted the prison tents. Israeli prison guards stormed the prison wards following the fire wounding three prisoners a couple of days ago. The ministry of prisoners in Gaza held the IOA and the Israeli prisons authority fully responsible for lives of the prisoners following the incident in the Negev prison in which 2,300 Palestinians are languishing.

Prisoners ministry holds IOA responsible for lives of Negev detainees

GAZA, (PIC)-- The ministry of prisoners' affairs has held the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) responsible for the lives of Palestinian prisoners in the Negev desert prison following the Israeli prison guards' assault. Riyadh Al-Ashkar, the ministry's spokesman, said in a statement on Tuesday that the prisoners had protested the guards' provocations against ward 5 then the guards stormed the ward firing gas and smoke bombs burning the entire tents in the ward and injuring three prisoners. He noted that the prison administration as usual deliberately delayed putting off the fire, refuting the prison claims that the prisoners were the ones to start the fire. The ministry had earlier warned of possible outbursts in the Israeli prisons especially in the Negev due to the Israeli prisons authority's pressures and harassment. Ashkar recalled the incident was not the first of its kind in Negev as a prisoner died and dozens wounded over 22 months ago when the prison guards used live bullets in quelling prisoners. The spokesman urged international institutions to immediately intervene and get acquainted with incarceration conditions in IOA jails.

Report: Prisoners, guard injured in jail clashes

Bethlehem – Ma’an – Three Palestinian prisoners and one Israeli warden were injured on Tuesday morning in clashes that at Israel’s Negev desert prison camp, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Center for Studies (PCS).

PCS asserted that Israeli prison service has trained special units to counter Palestinian prisoners’ protests. Amongst these units is one called Nehshon, and another called Matsada which use nonlethal weapons that can cause prisoners eyes to be plucked out, or pain lasting several days.

These units, according to the PCS, ransack prisoners’ living quarters overnight wearing masks, and even torture prisoners. They also confiscate prisoners’ property such as family letters and photo albums. It was one of these raids that sparked the clashes. No further details were given.

Israeli authorities have not commented on the report.

Three Palestinian prisoners wounded in Israeli quelling of protest

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Three Palestinian prisoners were wounded at dawn Tuesday during the Israeli jailors' violent quelling of protests by prisoners over tragic incarceration conditions. The Hebrew radio claimed that the prisoners set their tents on fire in the Negev desert prison which necessitated intervention on the part of prison guards. It said that three prisoners were injured and one of the jailors was hurt in the confrontations that ensued. More than 2,000 Palestinians are held captives in Negev under harsh imprisonment conditions with many of them deprived of family visits. The prisoners' center for studies warned that the Israeli prisons authority could impose penalties on the prisoners as a result such as distributing them on other prisons and wards or beat them up. It asked human rights groups and institutions concerned with prisoners' affairs to immediately intervene before further possible worsening of the situation in the prison.

Palestinian sources reported on Tuesday morning that three Palestinian detainees were wounded om Monday at night ehrn fire that broke out in section 5 at the Israeli Negev detention facility.

Ala’ Sammar, representative of Fateh detainees at the facility said in a phone interview with the Palestinian News and Information Center (WAFA) that the fire was caused by an electric circuit in some tents causing fires to spread in the tents.

Several detainees were wounded and were moved to an Israeli military hospital.

Sammar held the Israeli authorities responsible for endangering the lives of the detainees, and added that the Israeli violations, repeated attacks against the detainees, tortutre, and medical negligence policies have claimed the lives of hundreds of detainees since 1967.

Naqab / PNN – At dawn today three Palestinians were injured in such a way that the Israeli prison administration alerted its own media. The Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot and Israeli Channel Two both reported that three Palestinian political prisoners were injured Tuesday morning in Al Naqab Desert Prison. The situation was reported upon it seems because it involves a fire where an Israeli jailer was also injured. The details involve a fire in the tents that serve as cells in the outdoor prison of the Naqab (Negev) Desert. Some 11,000 Palestinians are being held by the Israeli administration. Among the imprisoned are children, women, the elderly and the ill.

Israeli forces at the Gaza border shot a Palestinian teenager in his foot and proceeded to detain him, on Sunday evening.

Gaza's Health Ministry told local media that the 15-year-old boy was taken to a hospital inside Israel.

Israeli sources reported that a military patrol discovered the boy approaching the electronic fence that surrounds Gaza. The patrol shot the boy when he refused to stop.

Others sources claim that the boy was wearing a thick jacket, which made the boy look suspicious in the eyes of the soldiers. The boy was searched and no explosives or weapons where found on him.

The boy reportedly admitted that he intended to "infiltrate" into Israel during his interrogation. But he kept insisting that he had no plans to carry out any attacks against Israel.

It remains unknown how trustworthy this testimony is, since it is widely documented by human rights organizations that Israel employs dubious interrogation techniques that can be qualified as torture. Palestinian children have not been exempted from such treatment.

Gaza – Ma’an – Israeli forces detained a Palestinian teenager after shooting him in the foot near the Israel border on Sunday evening, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.

The 15-year-old boy was taken to Barzalai Hospital inside Israel, according to Muawiyah Hassanein, the director of Ambulance and Emergency Services at the ministry.

Israeli sources reported that an Israeli military patrol spotted the boy approaching the electronic fence in the northern Gaza Strip, shooting him when he refused to stop.

Others said he was wearing a heavy jacket, uncharacteristic for the time of year. Nevertheless the boy was searched and found not to be carrying weapons or explosives.

The Israelis added that under interrogation he admitted intending to "infiltrate" into Israel, but insisted that he had no other plans to carry out attacks inside the country.

Israeli forces routinely patrol a "buffer zone" up to 500 meters wide along the Green Line, inside Palestinian territory. Palestinians who approach the border are often shot.

Meanwhile, Palestinian fighters and Israeli forces clashes near the Nahal Oz crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip. Fighters launched a rocket-propelled grenade at forces stationed there, according to Israeli news reports. No one was reported injured, and Ma'an received no claim of responsibility for the alleged attack.

IOA kidnaps 40 Palestinian children in one month

GAZA, (PIC)-- The PA ministry of prisoners and ex-prisoners' affairs in Gaza has accused Tuesday the Israeli occupation authorities of kidnapping 345 Palestinian citizens, including 40 minors during the past month of April. Although the month of April witnessed a number of activities in support of the Palestinian prisoners incarcerated in Israeli jails, which were considered as the biggest in this regard, repressive Israeli measures against the Palestinian captives persisted despite strong condemnation from local and international human rights groups. According Riyadh Al-Ashkar, the information officer in the ministry, the IOA rounded up hundreds of Palestinian citizens across the West Bank, Jerusalem, and fishermen from the besieged Gaza Strip. The PA official also disclosed that the kidnapped Palestinian children were tortured and humiliated at the hands of the IOF troops, noting that the number of Palestinian children captives in the Israeli jails has jumped to more than 430 children. Among the kidnapped children was Palestinian girl Maymona Jebreen, 16, who was visiting her brother in the Israeli detention camp of Ofer before the Israeli occupation police arrested her, alleging she was hiding a knife. Her father and her other two brothers were also rounded up later on by the IOA troops. According to the ministry's record, at least 10 Palestinian fishermen were kidnapped by the Israeli navy while they were fishing off the Gaza shores. Moreover, Ashkar accused the IOA of deliberately neglecting sick Palestinian captives in the Israeli jails that led to worsening their health condition further; underlining that number of sick Palestinian captives was rapidly increasing as a result of this inhumane policy. He explained that the vicious Israeli campaign against the Palestinian captives increased after an extremist Israeli party seized the portfolio of "internal security" in the new Israeli cabinet, which is directly supervising the Israeli prison authority (IPA). A couple of weeks ago, Palestinian captives refused to wear the orange uniform that the IPA tried to impose on them, stressing they are prisoners of war, and not criminals as the IPA wishes to portray them. At least three Palestinian detainees got wounded after clashes erupted between the Palestinian captives, and the IOF troops at the Ashkilon prison. Moreover, the ministry accused the IPA of denying the Palestinian captives the right to learn, saying that the IPA reduced the number of books the captives could read from eight books to one book only, in addition to denying them watching certain TV news channels like Al-Jazeera. But Palestinian female captives were completely denied any book to read, the ministry pointed out In addition to that, the administrative detention terms of many Palestinian detainees, including MPs from Hamas Movement were arbitrarily extended by Israeli courts without any legal justification, the ministry highlighted. At least two Hamas officials, including former vice-premier Dr. Naser Al-Dein Al-Shaer, and the prominent Hamas leader in the West Bank Rafat Naseef went on hunger strike in protest of their illegal detention.
