Prisoner hospitalized after health fails in hunger strike

RAMALLAH, (PIC)--  A Palestinian prisoner who joined the mass hunger strike rocking the Israeli prisons has been transferred to the hospital after his health deteriorated drastically.

Prisoners in Shata prison said the prisoner was taking part in an open-ended hunger strike that was declared thirteen days ago by thousands of prisoners. They added that his health “seriously” deteriorated, prompting the Israeli prison authority to transfer him to a hospital in the 1948-occupied territories.

The prisoner strike is aimed at improving prison conditions and ending the use of solitary confinement against the captives.

Medics say that if the human body goes without food for 11 to 14 days, the digestive system begins to become damaged, placing the life in danger.
