Abdul-Wahab, from Abwain village, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, spent 55 days at the Ofer Israeli interrogation and detention facility.

His lawyer, Tareq Barghout, filed a motion for his release for medical treatment as his condition deteriorated during his imprisonment due to the Israeli prison staff not providing medical care for his condition.

The case of Abdul-Wahab is one of hundreds of cases of ailing Palestinian detainees who are deprived of their basic right to medical treatment.

Dozens of detainees are in solitary confinement, some of them are seriously ill and need urgent medical attention.

According to the Palestinian prisoner society, 201 Palestinian detainees have died in Israeli prisons. Some of them died due to being shot and arrested despite their injuries; others died of extreme torture during interrogation; and others of medical negligence.

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli authorities on Monday released a teenage Palestinian detainee diagnosed with cancer, Palestinian Authority officials said.

Mustafa Shehab Abdul Wahhad, 16, was detained by Israeli forces in February. Medics said malignant tumors in his chest grew during his detention in Ofer prison, in a military base near Ramallah.

Abdul Wahhad, from Abwein village north of Ramallah, was accused of throwing stones at Israeli settlers.

Lawyers from the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Detainees lodged an urgent request for Abdul Wahhad's release in Israeli courts on the grounds that he has cancer and needs medical attention.

On his release, the teenager was taken to the Ash-Sheikh Zayed hospital in Ramallah for treatment.

PA Minister of Detainees' Affairs Issa Qaraqe welcomed Abdul Wahhad on his release from prison.
