Ramallah – Ma'an – Palestinian Authority Minister of Prisoners and Ex-Detainees' Affairs Issa Qaraqe struck a deal on Tuesday with the Arab Dentists' Society in which 65 specialists will attend to prisoners in Israeli jails.
The medical visits will be coordinated with the ministry as detainees are in need of dental treatment, the minister said. All of the dentists hold Israeli citizenship and therefore have access to prisoners.
Qaraqe noted that the deal follows recent failures to provide Palestinians with adequate medical care by the Israeli Prison Administration. According to the minister, at least 1,500 Palestinian detainees suffer from a number of serious illnesses, including cancer.
The minister called on local and international human rights organizations to intervene in the cases of those detainees whose health is deteriorating as a result of the alleged Israeli medical negligence.
