GAZA, (PIC)-- The higher national committee for prisoners held the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) fully responsible for the life of patient Ahmed Asfour imprisoned in Ramon jail and now hospitalized in Ramle prison hospital after his health condition critically deteriorated. Spokesman for the committee Riyadh Al-Ashqar stated that prisoner Asfour is in a serious health condition after he sustained very serious shrapnel wounds during the last Israeli war, which led to the amputation of all his fingers and caused him to lose his pancreas and large parts of his intestines. Asfour has become diabetic after he lost his pancreas and he is unable to relieve himself, have his meals or change his clothes alone without help from others, Ashqar added. Despite his indescribable suffering, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) kidnapped him at Beit Hanoun crossing on November 24, 2009 as he was being escorted by someone from his family to receive medical treatment in a hospital in occupied Jerusalem after his entry was approved by the IOA, the spokesman noted. He affirmed that sudden health deterioration happened to Asfour a few days ago as a result of diabetic complications and consequently he started to have repeated comas, adding that his life has become threatened especially in light of the very poor health care given to him in jail. The committee appealed to all international human rights organizations to urgently intervene to secure the release of patient Asfour who needs a pancreas transplant and a surgery for his damaged nerve cords. |
