Ghassan Kanafani camp students call for freedom for political prisoners

The Progressive Student Action Front continued its Ghassan Kanafani summer camp for secondary school students, mobilizing in protest in support of Palestinian prisoners. The students, who participate in the PSAF camp between August 1-6, 2009, protested on Monday, August 3, 2009 in front of the International Committee for the Red Cross office in Gaza, calling for the ICRC to take action to protect prisoners' rights.

The protest called for freedom for imprisoned PFLP General Secretary Comrade Ahmad Sa'adat and all Palestinian prisoners, praising their example in building national unity and demanding the immediate release of all of the prisoners within the jails of the Zionist enemy.

Comrade Ramzi Abu Sharkh spoke on behalf of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, paying tribute to the freedom fighters and activists inside the Zionist jails and calling for their freedom. He mentioned Comrade Ahmad Sa'adat's leadership in the prisoners' struggle, as well as fellow Palestinian national leaders in the prisons, including Marwan Barghouthi, Ibrahim abu Hijleh, Bassam Saadi, Nael Barghouti, Karim Fouad Younis, and thousands of prisoners. He pledged the commitment of the Front to struggle to win the freedom of the prisoners by all means and follow in their path of dignity and resistance.

He called for national unity among Palestinians, following in the example of the prisoners' movement. He called for Fateh and Hamas to uphold their responsibility to the Palestinian people to take action to build national unity, including the release of all political prisoners and detainees and freedom to travel. He called upon all Palestinian forces to focus on confronting the enemy and the struggle for liberation and return, noting that the issue of the prisoners is a central issue in the struggle against the occupier.
