Hamas MPs condemn continued detention of speaker

NABLUS, (PIC)-- Hamas PLC members in the West Bank have condemned the Israeli court decision to continue holding PLC speaker Dr. Aziz Dwaik until a new sentence is passed against him.

They said in a statement that the ruling was political and had no legal background other than ignoring all international norms and doctrines.

Fadi Al-Qawasme, the lawyer of Dwaik, said that the speaker would remain in custody even after his earlier sentence expires by mid June, adding that the court might take a month to adopt a new verdict.

Meanwhile, the Hamas MPs in Nablus held the Israeli occupation authority fully responsible for the lives of Palestinian prisoners in its jails especially in light of the continued medical neglect and increasing complaints on their incarceration conditions.

The deputies issued their statement after receiving messages from Palestinian captives in IOA prisons especially the notorious Negev desert jail where they said that rats and reptiles were spreading in the wards.

They underlined that the IOA policy against those prisoners would not succeed in weakening their morale or making them give up what they have been imprisoned for.

The MPs appealed to local and international human rights institutions to urgently intervene to save the lives of those prisoners and to expose the IOA practices against them.

They finally asked the PA leadership to give priority to the issue of those prisoners and called on the Palestinian people to organize more rallies to keep this question alive and to back the prisoners at least morally.
