RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- The Wa'ed society for prisoners and ex-prisoners said on Wednesday that the Israeli military court in Ofer has turned down an appeal by the Israeli prosecution to extend the detention of PLC speaker Dr. Aziz Dwaik whose sentence ends on 17/6/2009. Hazem, the son of the imprisoned speaker, told Wa'ed society in a telephone contact that he was on his way to pay the fine imposed on his father in order to conclude the court procedures prior to Dwaik's release. He said that the fine is around 1,300 dollars and that his father would be released within hours. Dwaik served his entire 36-month sentence after he was abducted from his home in the wake of the Palestinian resistance's capture of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. He was held in prison as a bargaining chip and sentenced at the pretext of being affiliated with Hamas along with many other Hamas deputies in the West Bank. |
