Bethlehem - Ma’an/Agencies - Four Palestinians were reportedly detained by Israeli forces for their role in the death of an Israeli settler in 2006, Israeli news sources revealed Wednesday.

Reports, which were based on documents released by Israeli intelligence offices, said the four men were from the Qalqiliya area and all affiliated with Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Brigades.

The settler, 59-year-old Dr Daniel Yaakobi, was found dead in a car near Qalqiliya on 27 July, 2006, shortly after the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, and the Israeli counter attacks that targeted Palestinian lawmakers. More than 43 members of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) were taken during June and July raids in Ramallah.

The man was from the illegal West Bank settlement of Yakir.

In the reports Israeli sources named the four detained Palestinians as:
Tayun Tayun
Ahmad Tayun
Amar Nofel
Nassim Jabaiti

All the men are under thirty, and were detained in April and May, reports said.

Tayun Tayun allegedly confessed to the murder during interrogation. Reports said the death of the settler was in retaliation for the death of a Palestinian, identified as Hamada Shtiwi, who was killed the day before.
